After a chance meeting in 2019, Kassian (Joe Danvers-McCabe and Warren Cummings) have been steadily building momentum, releasing on Heist, Phonica White, Shall Not Fade, Unknown To The Unknown, and !K7 Records. Their sound has evolved from groove-laden house to leftfield techno with UK bass and electro influences. Recent projects include Phase Two (!K7 Records 2023), a heavier and more abstract acid techno release, and Supercontinent (!K7 Records 2024), a bass-driven blend of amapiano and baile funk with interlocking shaker patterns, searing acid lines, and cracking breakbeats. Releases on Unknown To The Unknown and Unknown Untitled have further showcased their hybrid sound, featuring 4x4 rhythms, halftime Bass, and intricate soundscapes. With their debut album Channels on !K7 Records, they’ve come full circle, focusing on the warmer, sample-based, and house-inspired sonics that brought them together. Kassian periodically revisited these initial pieces throughout the last five years until they felt able to journey deeper, using their rapidly developing craft and refined production techniques to build a debut album that momentarily steps away from some of their more club-focused excursions. “As we were writing, we realized that all the tracks had the unique potential to tell a story,” reflects Cummings, with Channels leading the listener through a series of different atmospheres and emotional terrains.
