Matthew Dear’s Audion project stands proudly at the intersection between art and hedonism, realised over a decade long dedication to powerful and relevant dance music. Following critical praise from his first album in 10 years ‘Alpha’, !K7 release a remix EP with Matthew Herbert and FOLD. ‘Alpha’ shines brightly with pulverising metallic synths, machine driven 4/4 drums and unforgettable hooks. The remix EP maintains its captivating spirit across two very different tracks. British electronic wizard Matthew Herbert is known for ignoring boundaries and mangling conventions, taking the mundane and making it into music. For his remix of ‘Gut Man Cometh’ he riffs off of the originals playful psychedelics and eerie vocals, warming and pushing the groove, chopping and distorting to a new twisted climax. The mind bending ‘Destroyer’ with it’s tenacious bass and gnarled synth is a full bodied floor filler that’s typical of Audion’s sonically serrated side. Aus Music and NTS regular FOLD takes ‘Destroyer’ and transforms it into 4/4 floor filler where the sonic ripples of Audion play over dreamy pads and warm melody.
